The virtual workshop event will examine the evolving dynamics of population change, (im)migration, and policy responses in Canada and South Korea—two OECD countries facing similar demographic challenges despite their distinctly different immigration histories.

The event will consist of two thematic workshops with open discussions. The first workshop will focus on the demographic realities and policy responses in South Korea and Canada, addressing topics including settlement experiences, integration policies and intercultural urban governance. The second workshop will examine trends in education and youth migration, focusing on patterns of student mobility, temporary migrant workers, and policy responses. Speakers include renowned experts, scholars and graduate students from South Korea and Canada.

This event is supported by the Office of Dean of Arts, the Department of Geography & Environmental Studies and Asian Studies Program at Saint Mary’s. This virtual workshop is free and open to any SMU students, faculty, and members of the Korean Studies Consortium who are interested in the topic.
