Language Change: The Kids are All Right

Teenagers quickly learn that adults don't like how they use language. 'Like', 'so', 'literally', 'OMG', emoji, and more all spark complaints. Scientific investigation confirms that young adults push language-change forward. However, there is no evidence that this is a problem. Language-change is both normal and mathematically consistent. Standards for usage are set and maintained by people with a lot of social power, so agitation about nonstandard language is based on social judgment rather than linguistic fact.
11:35-12 p.m.

Meet Your Ancient Relatives: Neanderthals, Early Humans, and the Story of Us

Step into the Evolutionary Anthropology Lab and explore the fascinating world of our ancient relatives. Through fossil casts, stone tools, and hands-on activities, discover what Neanderthals, Denisovans, and other early human species looked like, how they lived, and what they reveal about the story of our species.
