Applying to Graduate

Applications for Fall 2026 graduation are now closed. Submissions for the next graduation period (Winter 2027) will be open October 15 to November 30.

Instructions: 

  1. Log in to Self Service Banner.
  2. Click on the three lines on the top left to expand the dashboard. Choose Applications from the given options.
  3. Select the鈥�"Banner Self-Service"鈥痶ab, then select the following tab sequence: Student Information > Student Landing Page > Student Profile > Application to Graduate.
  4. Complete and submit the online application form.

IMPORTANT: If you have not received an e-mail confirming that your application was received within 5 business days of submitting your application, please contact: academic.operations@smu.ca

Convocation Details: 

  • Convocation Ceremony: November 13, 2026

More details about the ceremony will be shared closer to the date. 

Upcoming graduation application periods: 

If you will complete your studies in a later term, please note the future application windows: 

  • Winter 2027 Graduation 
    • Graduation application period: October 15 – November 30, 2026 
    • Program completion date: January 4, 2027 
  • Spring 2027 Graduation 
    • Graduation application period: February 1 – March 15, 2027
    • Program completion date: May 3, 2027

Each student follows a unique timeline as to when they will finish their requirements. Therefore, you must apply to graduate in order to notify the University when you have chosen to finish your studies.
